For our 2024 Toyota Corolla vs. 2024 Honda Civic compact car comparison, we evaluated multiple areas. This includes passenger and cargo space, safety, reliability, performance, fuel economy, price, and warranty coverage. 

Corolla vs. Civic: Passenger and cargo space

The 2024 Honda Civic is slightly larger than the 2024 Toyota Corolla, which results in more passenger space. For both the Civic Sedan and Hatchback, there’s 99.0 cu-ft of passenger space. Conversely, the Corolla has 88.6 cu-ft for the Sedan and 84.6 cu-ft for the Hatchback.

The Civic also offers more storage space. It provides a trunk capacity of 14.8 cu-ft for the Sedan and a maximum cargo capacity of 24.8 cu-ft for the Hatchback, compared to the 13.1/23.0 cu-ft for the Corolla. 

Corolla vs. Civic: Safety

The Corolla and Civic are safe vehicles. Both small cars earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Corolla vs. Civic: Reliability

The Corolla is more reliable than the Civic. The Toyota compact car has a J.D. Power reliability rating of 85/100, compared to 80/100 for the Civic. 

Corolla vs. Civic: Engines

On the performance front, the 2024 Toyota Corolla comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 169 horsepower. Additionally, the hybrid powertrain in the Corolla Hybrid generates 134 horsepower. There’s also the 1.6-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine in the GR Corolla “hot hatch.” It doles out 300 horsepower.

In comparison, the standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the 2024 Honda Civic generates 158 horsepower, while the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder produces 180 horsepower. 

Also, the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the Civic Si delivers 200 horsepower. Like the Corolla, the Civic has a “hot hatch” model with the Type R. It features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which churns out 315 horsepower.

Additionally, the Civic offers a new hybrid powertrain for the 2024 model year. The official specs are not yet available for the hybrid model, but Car and Driver expects its output to range between 180 and 200 horsepower. 

While the Civic offers more powerful engines, a performance advantage for the Corolla is an available traction-enhancing all-wheel drive system. Conversely, the Civic only has front-wheel drive as an option.

Corolla vs. Civic: Fuel economy

For efficiency, the Corolla has an estimated fuel economy of up to 31 city/40 highway mpg for the fully gas-powered model and 53 city/46 highway mpg for the hybrid. In comparison, the fully gas-powered Civic gets an estimated gas mileage of up to 33 city/42 highway mpg. We don’t yet know the fuel economy of the Civic Hybrid, though.

Corolla vs. Civic: Price

The official price information is not yet available for the 2024 Corolla or the 2024 Civic. However, for the 2023 model year, the Corolla is cheaper. It starts at $21,700 MSRP, compared to $23,750 MSRP for the Civic. 

Corolla vs. Civic: Warranty coverage

The Corolla and Civic are backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Both small cars also offer free maintenance — with a 2-year/25,000-mile plan for the Corolla and a 2-year/24,000-mile program for the Civic

For the 2024 Corolla, this includes reliability, available all-wheel drive, and gas-powered fuel economy. And for the 2024 Civic, advantages include more powerful engine options, as well as more passenger and cargo space.
