If you’re in the market for a compact crossover, the 2023 Subaru Forester is a popular and excellent option. As a trusted model name, there is a lot to like about the Forester. It’s not very often experts agree on which version of a vehicle is the best. However, experts like Edmunds and Car and Driver recommend buying the same trim level for the compact Subaru. Experts agree on the best 2023 Subaru Forester, the Premium trim.

What is the best 2023 Subaru Forester trim?

You’ll likely notice a trend if you research cars online before purchasing. For the most part, experts and critics will disagree on the best vehicle trim level for several reasons. That’s why when a few agree on which version is best, it probably means it really is a stand-out model. Moreover, the experts at Edmunds and Car and Driver think the Premium model is the best 2023 Subaru Forester trim.

Out of six trim levels in the lineup, the Forester Premium is the mid-tier version of the compact crossover. For many buyers, highlights of the Forester are its reliability, standard all-wheel drive, and cargo capacity, which are all available with every trim level. As a result, any of the Forester trim levels are viable, but the Premium trim is the best one to buy to get the most bang for your buck.

Edmunds recommends the Premium trim

As the second-cheapest trim in the Forester lineup, the $30,620 is also the most popular. It comes with everything included with the base model, which is a surprisingly large number of features. In addition, it adds things like the All-Weather package of heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Plus, a panoramic sunroof and multiple drive modes for improved traction in certain weather conditions.

Edmunds says the Premium model is the best trim to buy because “it’s the second-most affordable trim yet offers an appealing mix of features.” With all the Forester has for the base model, plus the additions of just a few thousand dollars more, the Premium trim feels like a bargain. Getting more tech and features is nice, but higher trims are more costly, which outweighs the value.

Similarly, Car and Driver also think the best 2023 Subaru Forester trim is the Premium model. The publication says it “offers the best mix of value and features.” Specifically, C/D likes the addition of 17-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, body-color side-view mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, reclining rear seatbacks, an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system.

With all this equipment for a barely higher price than the base model, it’s no wonder experts agree on the best 2023 Subaru Forester trim. C/D noted that the Limited and Touring trims are much fancier, but most drivers can go without the upscale feeling. Especially when they realize it will save them anywhere from $4,000 to $7,000.

Best 2023 Subaru Forester trim to buy

In conclusion, the 2023 Subaru Forester Premium is the best trim to buy. The compact crossover is a well-equipped model in all its forms, even the cheapest base model. Standard all-wheel drive, reliability, and a potent engine will do that. However, the Premium trim is filled with extra amenities the base model doesn’t offer. Plus, it does all of the most important things higher trims do without the massive price tag.
