Mercedes-Benz has specialized in building cars with high-performance powertrains and top-notch interiors for years. Recently, Mercedes has also released a few electric cars, with models like the EQS coming to market. It comes packed with all the latest technology from the automaker, plus a satisfying range that even most luxury rivals can’t beat.
Critics love the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS so much that it has become the top-rated EV on U.S. News. If you can afford to finance one, here’s why an EQS is worth having.

According to U.S. News, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS has a near-perfect score overall. The most affordable trim has a RWD setup with a single electric motor, capable of 329 hp and 419 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes-Benz says that this sedan can reach 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds and offers 350 miles of range.
If you get the EQS 580 with AWD instead, you’ll still get a healthy range of 340 miles. This model comes with two electric motors that generate 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque combined. The automaker claims that this EV only needs 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph.
Both share the same top speed of 130 mph. The 450+ model rides on 20-in wheels, while the 4Matic 580 has 21-in wheels attached. Both offer comfortable ride qualities thanks to a standard air suspension.
All Mercedes-Benz EQS models seat five people on leather seats, which include standard ventilation and heating. Each EQS also has a touchscreen and digital gauge cluster that both measure between 12-13 in. each. Both have a standard navigation system with augmented reality (AR) graphics.
Riders are treated to a panoramic roof, wireless smartphone integration, and a premium Burmeister stereo system boasting 15 speakers. With the Hyperscreen upgrade, you can add an additional touch display for the front passenger. The EQS features the latest version of the MBUX infotainment system, which now offers OTA updates.
Both versions of the Mercedes-Benz EQS have three trim levels, as well as various packages offering more options. All advanced driver’s aids are standard equipment, save for a head-up display with optional AR elements. At a minimum, you can expect to pay $102,310 for the base trim and $125,900 for the 4Matic model.

Critics are quick to praise the acceleration capabilities of the Mercedes-Benz EQS. Both powertrains offer whisper-quiet operations and their high torque outputs get you moving quickly. However, most reviews tend to describe its handling as “well-rounded” as opposed to athletic.
Critics didn’t detect much body roll from the EQS and appreciated the car’s comfortable ride quality in all of its drive modes. The regenerative brakes are easy to modulate, and drivers also enjoyed the 10-degree rear-axle steering.
Many EQS reviews also praise the car’s interior build quality, highlighting the decorative wood trim and the plush leather seats. Even with a slanted roofline, the majority of critics were impressed with the roominess of the Mercedes-Benz EQS. Reviews also confirm that the EQS also has a lot of usable cargo space in the trunk area.
One thing might aggravate EQS owners
Some critics on U.S. News think that the Mercedes-Benz EQS’s infotainment interface doesn’t offer enough physical controls. Climate and audio settings have to be adjusted with touch sliders, which might be too distracting for some drivers.
However, other critics argue that the touch-operated buttons are large enough to remain convenient. Additionally, all of the menus are user-friendly and the screen displays rich graphics. Even with its triple-digit price tag, critics agree that the interior quality and exceptional electric drivetrains prove its value.
